Mariela Flores graduated in 2017 cum laude in Musicology at the University of Veracruz (MX) and in 2024 she completed the Early Music Voice Masters at the Amsterdam Conservatory (NL), under the tuition of mezzo-soprano Xenia Meijer.
As a solo soprano, she has sung in Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine of 1610, Agostino Steffani’s Stabat Mater, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Johannes-Passion BWV 245, and Gaetano Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle , among other works. She has collaborated with outstanding conductors such as Andrés Locatelli (Theatro dei Cervelli), Greg Skidmore (Tallis Scholars), Eamonn Dougan (The Sixteen), Lionel Meunier (Vox Luminis), JanJoost van Elburg (Westerkerkkoor Amsterdam), and Adrian van der Spoel (Musica Temprana). Mariela has received additional vocal instruction from Emma Kirkby, Margreet Honig, Claron McFadden, Nicholas Clapton, and Javier Camarena, among others.
Mariela was a finalist in the International Salvat Bach Scholarship and the Mirabent I Magrans Competition in Barcelona. She is interested in historical acting techniques, particularly their research and practice onstage. Alongside her singing, Mariela is a choir and voice teacher at Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam and Buitenkunst Randmeer.
Recent highlights include singing the role of Hermia in Henry Purcell’s A Fairy Queen, a BarokOpera Amsterdam production, under the direction of Fréderique Chauvet.
